the kiss

my 4 girlie pies deserve the best...
one of the things we talk about from the time they can understand is purity and saving your kisses and yourself for the man you marry.

purity is one of those things that we don't ever hear in this society...and when we do, kids giggle and parents all too often toss their hands in the air and say it's a lost cause. it's not, btw. in the era of the bachelor where we kiss and have sex to find our true love, our kids deserve more.

beat the lost cause attitude by talking...and talk with your kiddos from the time they are very young about how they and their bodies are special gifts from god. and that the gift of purity is to be a special thing to share only with their spouse. when that dialog begins early, i promise it will be easier later!

enter a super fab way to introduce your kids to what purity means in a way that is non-confrontational and a beautiful book...
the princess and the kiss

this book is more than amazing! the story is of a princess who receives a gift of her first kiss and she has to choose to keep it or give it away. the story is a great illustration of 1 timothy 1:5:
"love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith."

and i don't have boys, but jennie bishop just released a boy version clad with swords and dragons and no kissing called "the squire and the scroll".

i'm telling you, hearing my hubs read this book to my b and jk just makes my heart grow 3 sizes...it's amazing...not just for me, but for the girls. and my girlies are worth the teaching.

First of all... I thought I was the only one that has "Girlie Pies"! That's what I call my girls! Hahah!

That is a very cool book, I will definitly be looking into that... Mine are still young but my boy is in school (he is 6) and already he is telling me that girls tell him they love him. We can't leave school without atleast 2 of the little girls running after him to give him hugs! Hugs in kindergarten! Thank you for introducing that book. I had no idea such thing existed...

We love this book! It's silly but I get a lump in my throat whenever we read it. We did utube videos of my daughters reading this book for abby (button in your side bar)last time she was in the hospital. I highly recommend this book too!

Thank you for posting about this very important issue. I have 2 girls and I know how tough it is going to be for them...but we will teach them purity for sure. I had never heard of this book, so I am going to run to the store and get it. They are getting to that age and like you said...it is ok to talk about it at a young age. Where did you find that book?
Great picture too...I am sure it melts your heart as well.

I am a kid, and I'll tell you all what I'm sure you already know... The world out there is worse than you imagine! Girls at 11, 12, 13 trying to get pregnant, girls I graduated high school with (in 2006) who have multiples- from different dads. I mean really, in today's world the possibilities are endless and not in a good way. Teach your babies so they don't have to learn the hard way (through shame, heartbreak, and all that messy stuff!)

Thanks for the book ideas! I am going to check them out! I agree in this day and age it shouldn't be considered a lost cause.

I was thrilled to death when my teen daughter requested I buy her the book "Christian Dating and Limits." What kind of kid does that? We're lucky parents indeed.

I couldn't agree more. My daughter (kindergarten!) and I just had to deal with that...a boy wanted to kiss her (after he'd been kissing 4-5 other girls in the class!). She was feeling left out, and was sad when she wasn't the one given attention...and she thought that kissing would make him like her! EEK! We're talking about 5 year olds! Needless to say, I had to have the purity talk with her...(we just talked about kissing) - and this book is a fantastic way to reinforce the point. LOVE that you wrote this purity encouragement post. I think we need MORE of this in our mainstream - and appreciate your efforts for your precious girls!!

i can't imagine how difficult it must be to be a kid/teen these days. it's just all so scary out there, even for me, and i'm 36 years old!! it touched my heart to read this post and be reminded that there are so many parents teaching their kids the "right" things to do (or NOT do!).

I'll have to check out your suggestions! I definately agree with early dialog...
my daughter is nearing the teen years and I look forward to such mother-daughter talks getting more in debt. I love the way you put it to remind them their bodies are a gift from God.
