Soccer time

I am not a soccer Mom.  I am a softball and basketball Mom...I even do track and lacrosse.  Soccer, not a big fan.  But, Brooke begged (and I do mean begged) to play soccer this fall.  Like with all the girls, before we sign up for a sport they get "the talk".

ME:  being a on a team means not always being able to do what you want.  once you commit, you must finish the season.  after the season, if you never want to play again, that's fine.  but, you will finish the season.  do you understand? (what she hears, "yada yada yada")

B: yes Mommy.  i want to play sooooo bad.

ME: you want to play.  are you sure? there is no quitting.

B: I want to play.  please let me play.  i will kick the ball to the moon.  will my coach get mad at me for kicking the ball to the moon?

So, i fell for it...i signed her up.  She loved practice...listened well...but HATED the scrimmage part of the practice.

Why?

"There's only one ball, Mommy and that doesn't seem fair to everyone."

So, Saturday was game day.  like any good soccer girl, i had her
hair all fixed up...white ribbon and all.  she had on her fresh new blue cleats, shiny black shorts and shin guards and she was ready for action.  We could not get to the fields quick enough.
Then, well...there was a whistle.  and things went from bad to worse and, well, you just have to look for yourselves:

the initial whistle blowing incident...tears have started.
we're okay still.

I make her go on the field...she can pout or scream, but she must be on the field.

Wow...look at those cute shoes.  Those are nice shoes.

Well, she looks great.  She is...well...a fighter.  (note that Ryan is the shirt and shorts in the pic...he's also the assistant coach...not embarrassed at all btw)

We'll see what happens next week when we have her in her ear muffs to keep the whistle sound out.  Yes, we are THOSE people.

TOOOO CUTE!!!!

Yeah, my nephew has quit every activity about two weeks after games start. Makes me so annoyed but I'm not his parent.

hahaha...I remember DQ's first soccer season. There were moments she did not want to return, moments she would cry and throw a fit - but she had 'the talk' and knew she had to go back. That was a few seasons ago and she loves every minute of it.

It took a while to get used to the game - it wasn't played like she thought (ie fair for everyone) but she learned and things got better, plus she got a trophy at the end of the season and that made it all worth it!

She does look adorable by the way!!!

Awww. What a sad face. I want to cry with her! But she is so cute! I hope the second game goes better.

It doesn't matter if you win or lose as long as you look good doing it!

I love it! I love that you make them finish something that they start and I love that she had the gumption {whether she liked it or not} to go on the field and play.

I think her comment about the ball is hilarious and SO TRUE! :o)

Oh, she is adorable!

I love soccer, and have been avidly recruiting my boys to be soccer players in a few years :) We'll see how my plan goes!

oh so funny - my daughter wanted to play soccer UNTIl she played soccer - SHE hated it - I COULD NOT get her to stay on the field to save my life. Eventually we had to pull out it was REALLy turmoil!

Best wishes for a great season!
At least the crying was because of a loud alarming noise and not because she was mad at not being able to have the ball all to herself! :) She looks absolutely ADORABLE. Sounds like the ear muffs are a good idea. :)

Yeah...soccer...that's a game I don't get either. My oldest played it one year. Yeah...ONE year. We do the whole, "you sign up, you play" thing too (who wants to raise a quitter?). Of course, it didn't take long before I was thinking I might just quit FOR him but we struggled through and made it. You know, if all else fails, you always gotta LOOK good...and she does.

Oh my. I'm afraid I may be in for that. My 10 yo dd wanted to play this year for the first time (after-school sports). She's generally a big priss and a chicken. The least competitive person I know, besides myself. I fully expect crying, complaining, and wanting to bail.

I love this and think we can be friends because I do the exact same thing and have posted in the past our baseball journey. I have similiar pics but my son didn't look as cute as your little girl crying...At least she liked the practices! My son was hit in the mouth the first practice and refused to go back, well, we made him but he made it miserable for everyone, why didn't I think of ear muffs?

That's adorable....for me anyway! :-) Isn't it funny how they get something in their little minds and won't stop obsessing about it, and then when "it" happens, it's not all they think it is in their heads? Kids....live and learn I say, live and learn....learn with cute expensive soccer shoes :-)

Oh no! My son's a year old and loud noises scare him to tears, too. It's awful but she'll get used to it.

I only played soccer for two non-consecutive seasons. I played softball for 14 consecutive years!

I was laughing and remembering when my daughter started soccer.
I have to say.. as bad as she felt she "looked good on the field"!!
My daughter was among 10 little blonde haired girls on her team of 12. The other girls had brown hair. I don't know why but this particular team of girls loved to tell blonde jokes and Lauren would come home every practice with a new one. She was cracking herself up and we laughed at the irony!
Hope this week your Soccer Girl Rocks!!

I too am not a soccer mom. I am a football mom and get this my 2nd just joined the unicycle team at school! Can't wait to blog those pics!

those are cute pictures even though she was not happy! LOL Look at her face! Does the sound of the whistle bother her and is that what set her off? I hope it gets better for her!

tuesday tribute---for tuesday

go blog yourself has been on my reading list for quite sometime...and so i really came to love little tuesday whitt and her whole sweet fam and became involved in praying for them in tuesday's battle with that stinky neuroblastoma . tuesday's parents are totally amazing...they inspire me! although tuesday went to play with jesus not so long ago, there have been so many people that are changed because of the courage and strength and honesty of the whitt family. on the day of celebration of tuesday's life, a number of folks who couldn't make it out to the funeral, took their kids on a 'wagie ride', which was one of tuesday's fav things. we all posted up our pics...shared our experiences with each other...and hugged our kiddos a little tighter. my kiddos wagie ride is here . from that precious little tuesday and her honorary wagie ride, a blog spawned...of course...and it is dedicated to nothing more than, in their words, "to keep track of lives touc...

random acts...GNO

over at GNO, there's a few of us who decided to challenge ourselves last week to perform a random act of kindness.   i talked with my girls and hubs about what we could do... we reserve some funds each month out of our giving to put towards a current or urgent need that we find.  i think it's important to let the kids see how we give as family...and they should be part of that decision too . as we were talking, and eating chinese...come on, you know there would be eating...i open my fortune cookie.  and this is it!! i was out getting a few minutes of alone time and decided to pay hubs forward by getting jiffy lube to do the oil change.  while i was there, i remembered how hard it was being a single mom.  i remembered that the little things, like oil changes, suddenly became bigger things and honestly, more expensive things.  *light bulb!!!* thomas rang me up for my oil change and asked if they had any scheduled appointments that i could pay for.  he looked at me a little odd......

A lesson in NOT BEING STUPID

What NOT to say to an adoptive family... Any of you all that know us know that we are an adoptive family...and for those that don't just look at our pic.  It will be obvious.  We are different sizes and shapes and colors.  That's why we call ourselves the "motley crew".  I know, pretty funny. Here's the deal...a few things that I don't need strangers to say to me, or tell me: 1.   I know that I'm white and my #3 daughter is brown.  I live with her.  Your revelation is not mine.   2.   Yes...some of my kids don't look like me.   3.   My kids have ears and are old enough to understand the stupid things you say.  So don't say "where's she from?"  I might have to kill you if you do.  Consider yourself warned. 4.   Just because an AA kid is adopted, doesn't mean they are from Africa.  Look around...here in the US we have AA people too. 5.   Don't ask me which of my kids are my REAL ones.  Clue...we are all real and so are you.....
