Treasures

I noticed yesterday as B and JK were outside playing...they seemed to find a lot of treasure. Most of what they 'discovered' and gifted to me were the things outside we rake or blow away or put chemicals on to kill.

So I got to thinking...I know, not now...it's Friday. But I did. Why is it that I don't see the beauty in the dandelion...that I see a weed and that I need to call the lawn application guy and talk to him about the fact that we pay good money to get rid of those darn things and they are coming back. You know what I mean, I'm sure.

Anyway, I decided to take a different look at what the girls brought to me yesterday, and I decided there was great beauty in the simple things.

Leaves...fascinating. How in the world did the Lord create all of those ideas with the veins and colors and well, everything.

Dandelions...what a beautiful color of yellow. It's bright like sunshine and really, when there's a lot of them in one place, (like a field, not my yard, of course), they are beautiful.

It all brings me to one of my favorite reminders...I like to refer to it as First Things First. Matthew 6 talks about treasures and remembering what should be first in our lives. And it ends with this great reminder:

"...seek first his kingdom and his righteousness.." Matthew 6:33

Funny, my kiddos just are enamored at creation, while I rake it up. That's maybe why I should have faith like a child more often. I worry about lunches and groceries and dusting and laundry and finances and, well, just about everything else. And where should I focus...yep, on the Creator himself. Then, His Word says,

"Don't worry about tomorrow. It will take care of itself. You have enough to worry about today."

Ain't that the truth?!

So...this weekend, I plan to challenge myself (and you too if you'd like) to look through the eyes of a child at the creation set before me.

"If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I'm trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God's giving. People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

"Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes."

It's amazing how if we look at things with a different view they can transform so beautifully!

You are so right. I love how children are all "oo look at those clouds" and "mummy mummy a daisy" and "can we go and see the snails in the garden". We do lose sight of what is really beautiful but I am so pleased I have them to keep me grounded!
Many thanks for your visit, I really appreciate it. And it was great to meet you and your girl power team!

Thank you. Hayden is alway giving my dandelions as though they are the most beautiful flower. I usually just throw it away when he is not looking. Thanks for helping me see it in a whole new light.

random acts...GNO

over at GNO, there's a few of us who decided to challenge ourselves last week to perform a random act of kindness.   i talked with my girls and hubs about what we could do... we reserve some funds each month out of our giving to put towards a current or urgent need that we find.  i think it's important to let the kids see how we give as family...and they should be part of that decision too . as we were talking, and eating chinese...come on, you know there would be eating...i open my fortune cookie.  and this is it!! i was out getting a few minutes of alone time and decided to pay hubs forward by getting jiffy lube to do the oil change.  while i was there, i remembered how hard it was being a single mom.  i remembered that the little things, like oil changes, suddenly became bigger things and honestly, more expensive things.  *light bulb!!!* thomas rang me up for my oil change and asked if they had any scheduled appointments that i could pay for.  he looked at me a little odd...

sadness

on the way home from DD {{bc apparently there was NO preschool today for jk...it's no prob, really...we just rushed around and scrambled and got in the car and then when we got there and there was no school...well, there were tears...thus DD}} , there came a moment of sincere sadness in my heart. jk: " mommy, i want to look like brookie" "why sweetie? you are the perfect jada" jk: "i don't like my brown skin. i want peach skin like brookie" i just sank. does that not make ur heart want to break? a 3 yo is struggling already with her skin being different. then, this happened: brooke: "jada, god made you and he loves you. he does it all right the very first time" then, i think my heart grew three sizes . jada threw a big smile up on her face and said, "ok. god loves me" now, if we all could just do that. god loves us...he doesn't make mistakes...he makes perfect works of art. sometimes there are scratches in the art.
So, it's been a while since i posted...years, in fact.  I stumbled upon to an old post and thought, I need to write more.  So here we are now... My family looks completely different and times are different, but we are still just the same people.  We've added one...P got married 2 years ago and now we have A.  I will talk more about that later.  But isn't our pic soooo cute?   For now, life is crazy and wild and sometimes completely unpredictable, but we are still praying and playing together.  Ryan and I are on our 21st year of marriage (woot woot), and the kids are well, old!  P is 25 and happily married to A, and they are celebrating 2 years next month.   B is a junior,  has a job and is blowing our minds with all she is achieving in this world, and she's one of the funniest kids on the planet.  She's grown an amazing amount in all her therapies and in life in general...she's an advocate for all who struggle, and autism does not define her...she defines hersel
