What's in a Name...

I was looking through iPhoto this lovely morning and saw this picture of cute, little me as a baby.  One year old to be exact.  A flash of memory came back when I saw "Dino" written by my Grandma in the corner.

I am #2 of 28 grandkids...the first girl.  I should have been a prize.  I was...actually, except in the name they gave me.  My cousin, Kev, was 8 months older than me, and said "Dino", and thus, it became my name forever more.  (BTW, my Mom hated that name with a passion!)

Now that I'm (well, not 40 yet) older, I look at the Flintstone's and think,

"Dino.  Really? I look way more like Pebbles."

Anyway, that brings me to ask...

...what was your nickname as a kid and HOW did you get it?

I had so many nicknames as a kid, but one that will always be with me is Monkey. When I was around the time kids usually start to walk, I wasn't yet. All I was doing was climbing. I would climb on everything!

That is a darling baby picture! You look nothing like Dino. Have you told us your name and I just missed it?

We were talking about nicknames last nigh at dinner. My oldest doesn't like that we called her Peanut Head when she was a baby. We called her that because her little head looked so little when we combed out all that hair.

What an adorable picture! You were and are sooo cute!

I was born Carolyn, but they called me Carrie because my mom was also Carolyn. I didn't have any other nicknames that I know of.

Now in high school, I was known as Mouth. hmmmmm...I haven't quite figured that one out yet. haha

I never had a nickname until I got married. And then it was a million variations of my last name :)

SOOOOOOOOOO cute.

We didn't do nicknames. Sad, I know. My husband is BIG into nicknames though so that tradition of no nicknames has been discarded. :)

Cute picture!

My parents called me Liddie. My Mom and I both have the same name so they had to differentiate between us. It was better than Big Lyd and Little Lyd. My Mom didn't like that one!

oh yeah, definitely Pebbles, not Dino! Cute pic of you!

My name is pronounced Meechelle (like the Beattles song Michelle, My Bell). My brother (2 yrs younger) couldn't quite say my name and he called me "Mimi" and that was my nickname, until I thought I was too old to be called that (around 2nd grade!) and requested Michelle again!

too funny. my family wasn't big into nicknames, though my grandmother called me pixie a lot b/c of my bangs. We do have nicknames in our family - good ones though (or so I think).

I never really had odd nicknames, just shortened versions of my name really. My dad has always called me "Nic" short for Nicole and well my friends always called me Kel...I still go by that most times now.

That's funny, because my nickname was Pebbles. I used to wear my hair like that, and The Flinstones was my favorite show! My other nickname was Junebug (born in June).

just found your blog - love it!

my nickname was Beaner. uh hu! Beaner! I've got some bean shaped birthmark on my head (so noone's seen it since I was a baby) and my Dad just started calling me Beaner. not funny! made my life miserable for years! of course now it's Sissy and I'm ok with that one.

They called me shrimp! I'm the normal sized person in my family. Everyone in my family is tall tall tall! I ended up marrying a man who is 6'9''! He fit right in!
